绘本公开课   Merry Christmas, Little Critter

一、 教学目标

1. 在图片的帮助下，理解故事大意，能提炼故事主要情节。

2. 在故事图片的帮助下理解并认读词汇/词语在语境中的意义：

Santa, mail, North pole, sled, decorate, hand the wreath, string, untangle, prefect, gift, carols, neighborhood, eggnog, roof。

3. 运用所学元音字母的发音规律，尝试朗读有关新词，并了解英美单词差异。

4. 通过阅读该故事体会到阅读的快乐，激发学生对节日的兴趣，引导学生增加课外阅读。

三、教学过程

Stage1 Warming-up

1. Greeting &Free talk

Yesterday was Christmas. What do people usually do at Christmas? 

  Review First…Next…Then…Finally… (板书贴)

  Do you want to know more about Christmas? Today we are going to read a storybook about Christmas.

Stage2 Pre-reading

1. 阅读封面信息

This is the cover of the book. What can you see from the cover?

Introduce the characters and the writer. 

  What does Little Critter do at Christmas? Try to guess. You may use Does Little Critter …? （板书关键词 buy/put/open/have...）

2. Now, we have 12 groups and each group has a storybook. Look at the task of group study.

Scan from page1-14, find out what do Little Critter’ family do.

  Tips：You can look at the pictures, and cut them into some parts. You can also try to catch the key words/phrases.

Step3 While-reading

* Every Christmas, Little sister and Little Critter write letters to Santa. We also called Santa Father Christmas.

Then they mail them all the way to the North Pole. Little Critter and his sister always send the letters to Santa in the North Pole. Do you remember Polar Bears? They live in Canada near the North Pole. Santa lives in the North Pole.

*Look at the picture. Where are Little Critter and Little Sister? What’s this? Teach ‘sled, go sledding, faster’

*Little Critter and Little Sister go back home. They decorate the house with their parents. How do they decorate the house?

*After they decorate the house, what do they do?

What’s the gift for Mom? Won’t Mom love this gift means Mom doesn’t like this gift, yes? From the picture, we know that Little Critter likes… Maybe he wants to have this toy car for Christmas gift. But is it his Christmas gift?

*They buy many gifts, what do they do then?

They sing Christmas songs, we can also called them carols.

They sing the carols to their neighborhood. They live near your house.

Listen, this is the famous Christmas carol “Silent Night”, people often sing the carols on Christmas Eve, they also go to the church on Christmas Day.

They drink the eggnog, the drink made by mixing beer, wine, ect. With eggs and milk.

3. Little Critter does a lot of things before Christmas. （板书复述）

First, Little Critter and his sister write letters to Santa, they also mail them to the North Pole to Santa.

Next, they go sledding at grandparents’ farm.

Then, they decorate the house with their parents. They hang the wreath and string the lights.

Then, they go Christmas shopping.

Finally, they sing Christmas carols and drink the eggnog.

Is he happy?

Christmas Eve comes. How is Little Critter?

Does he put a stocking on his bed?

Why he can’t sleep? Where is the sound from?

What does Little Critter see from the window?

4. It is Christmas Day. Little Critter and Little Sister wake up early and open their gifts. Look at the picture, what is Little Critter’s gift?

It’s a hamster, it’s very cute. Does Little Critter like it? How do you know?

Grandpa and grandma come over for Christmas dinner. What does come over mean? Yes, they live on the farm. They get together on Christmas Day. They have a good time.

Step4 Post-reading

1. Little Critter has a lot of fun at Christmas. It is the 26^th of December. New Year’s Day is coming next Wednesday.

What do people usually do at Chinese New Year? Look and say.
